Dental Implant Treatment in Korea: How Many Visits Are Needed?

Understand the typical two-stage dental implant schedule in Korea, what happens on each trip, and which clinical factors can change the timeline.

Quick answer

Most visiting patients should plan for two treatment stages rather than one short appointment: diagnosis and implant placement first, then the final crown after healing. At our clinic, a common planning range is 7–10 days for the first trip and 10–14 days for the second, but examination and CT findings determine your actual schedule.

Why are two stages commonly needed?

Implant treatment has two distinct jobs: placing the implant in bone and restoring it with the final tooth. Between them, the implant normally needs time to integrate with the surrounding bone. The appropriate placement and loading protocol depends on clinical conditions, not simply on how long a patient can stay in Korea.

An immediate temporary tooth may be possible in selected cases, especially when appearance is important, but it is not the same as promising a final crown immediately. Bone quality, implant stability, infection, grafting, the tooth position, bite forces, and overall health all affect the plan.

What happens on the first trip?

  1. 1

    Diagnosis and 3D planning

The dentist examines your mouth and reviews a 3D CT scan to assess bone, nearby anatomy, the tooth or missing space, and whether grafting is needed.

  2. 2

    Written treatment plan

The clinic confirms the recommended procedure, alternatives, fees, number of stages, and the provisional travel schedule before treatment starts.

  3. 3

    Implant placement

The implant is placed, with extraction or grafting on the same day when clinically appropriate. Sedation is available only after screening.

  4. 4

    Early follow-up

The surgical site and healing are checked. Stitch removal, scans, or a temporary tooth may be scheduled before you leave, depending on the case.

For visiting patients, Seoul Today Dental Clinic commonly plans about 7–10 days for this first stage. That is a clinic planning range, not a universal medical rule or a guarantee for every implant case.

How long is the healing period?

A common planning range on our implant page is approximately 3–6 months before the final restorative stage. Your individual interval may be shorter or longer. Bone grafting, sinus procedures, implant stability, healing, medical factors, and the treatment location can all change it.

During this period, follow the cleaning and eating instructions given by the clinic and report unexpected symptoms. If you live abroad, ask in advance whether a local dentist should check healing before your return trip and what information that dentist may need.

What happens on the second trip?

Once healing is confirmed, the implant is exposed if necessary, the restoration is digitally scanned and designed, and the final crown is fitted and adjusted. Our common planning range for visiting patients is about 10–14 days for this stage so there is time for fitting and any needed refinement.

An in-house dental lab can shorten the manufacturing and adjustment loop, but it does not remove the biological healing stage. Complex implant bridges or multiple units may also require more checks than a single crown.

What information helps us estimate your visit count?

Send a recent panoramic X-ray if available, clear photos, the number and location of missing or failing teeth, prior implant or graft history, relevant medical conditions and medications, and your possible travel dates. We can then prepare a provisional schedule for discussion.

The final visit count is confirmed only after examination and CT review. Read the implant treatment page for the clinic's process and current inclusions, or send your records and dates for an initial review.

What follow-up is needed after the final crown?

Implant treatment does not end when the crown is fitted. Cleaning, bite checks, and professional maintenance help identify inflammation or technical problems early. The frequency should be individualized to your risk, home care, and restoration design; a consensus report notes that six-month intervals or shorter are generally preferred for implant maintenance.
